THE LIFE OF LIVING DOLLS

Adult

The Life of Living Dolls is a dance-theater show, created by playwright and director Dan Nakagawa, with the Sambeckett Art and Creation core, inspired by the Living Dolls global community, in which men dress in masks, silicone clothes and prosthetic breasts. in order to transform themselves into living dolls, a movement that emerged in the 1980s, and which has fans in Germany, the UK and the USA. The montage investigates existential, identity, philosophical and artistic issues in the psychic construction of personality in search of a double as a way to transcend existence itself. And, through the subtleties, scenic and subjective tensions, it reveals the way in which the establishment of this new persona affects the identity and, consequently, the dance of the transformed body. According to the director, the characters meet their shadow, their double, based on concepts from psychoanalysis such as Sigmund Freud's 'stranger-familiar', Jacques Lacan's 'our other in the mirror', the 'returning oneself through the experience of the other', by Antonin Artaud.
